Targeted manual therapy

Galen Canine Myotherapy© is a targeted manual therapy designed to address chronic muscular pain, musculoskeletal conditions and mobility issues in dogs. By targeting specific muscles and joints through specialist massage techniques, passive movement and exercise, this therapy helps to release tension and alleviate pain, improving mobility.

It addresses the often painful compensatory issues stemming from underlying conditions such as hip/elbow dysplasia, DJD, cruciate problems, sub luxating patella and osteoarthritis. It is especially effective for dogs unable to tolerate NSAIDs. Muscle tension and pain in the back and neck, along with other general muscle-related issues, can also be treated.

This therapy uses very specific palpation to pinpoint where pain originates, often finding that compensatory issues are more painful than the original problem. The adaptive changes and postural shifts that result in an attempt to alleviate chronic suffering can actually compound the problem, leading to major postural shifts which further exacerbate chronic pain.

I employ targeted massage and manual techniques to stimulate a controlled inflammatory response in the muscles, stimulating change and repair of muscle fibres. This is a highly effective, proven method for managing chronic muscular pain in dogs, especially in cases of osteoarthritis and palliative care, where it can form an essential part of a treatment plan.
